We just had a partial hardwwod floor repair (bruce hd, laminate, gluedown), this was due to some water damage near our french doors (less than 4 sq ft) . The entire kitchen area and breakfast nook are hardwood, but the only area that needed it was near the door area itself. The floor runs perpindicular to the door, so we were not going to easily just replace the ones imediately in front of the door. Our installer said that to do the job correctly he would have to go from the door to the wall directly across from the door( almost 10' ), rather than just cut out the damaged boards and sub floor. I felt that this was excesive, but relented when we agreed to carry part of it over to the landing comming in from the garrage. My two questions for you are 1) was this in fact excessive, couldn't we have just replaced the small area in front of the door rather than almost 40 sq ft. 2) now the new floor "dips" and feels soft in several areas, I realize that it wasnt leveled correctly after he removed the old floor ( the old floor was fine here) and now wants to come back and "level" it to correct the problem ( I believe he wants to inject some sort of leveler to fix the problem). Just looking for some guideance and suggestions.... Thank you for your time and assistance.

Without seeing the concerns and damage firsthand, it is hard to determine, what I would feel is excessive.

Sounds like a gluedown over concrete and he didn't check for flatness of the subfloor.

If done right, drilling and gluing is undetectable, unless you're on your hands and knees looking for it.
