This will be my first T&G floor installation. I will be installing 9/16 Strand Woven Bamboo flooring with 1 1/2" staples. I have removed the old tile and found plywood underlayment stapled down to the 3/4 plywood subfloor.

Should I remove the underlayment and attach the 9/16 Strand Woven Bamboo flooring directly to the subfloor? or is it OK to install it over the underlayment?

(#15 felt will be stapled over the floor before installing the T&G)

What's under the underlayment? Sheet vinyl??

By removing it, you won't have as much of a height change from what it is now. You won't have to under cut the doorjambs as much, and your base board will have more height left to them.

If it is down solid and you can get all the mortar off so it is flat, I'd go over it in my house.

Working down - the floor was ceramic tile then vinyl tile then plywood underlayment then 3/4 plywood subfloor. The tile came off very clean and the plywood underlayment is smooth and secure. I am replacing the base boards and door molding so that is not a issue.

So, I think I will lay the bamboo over the underlayment. That will save me some work.
