i'm re-facing my stairs with hardwood planks. for my finished risers i have solid 1/4" bamboo. I'll be cutting off all overhanging tread except for the winders. i'll be filling out the risers with 2 layers of wood on the winders, and 1 on everything else. i will also be laying down 1/4" ply on top the treads to keep everything uniform.
should i glue all of these underlayments and riser fillers? what about the hardwood - should i also glue and nail?
my existing risers are only particleboard - not the most structurally sound backer for nailing anything to. but do risers squeek?
i'm feeling like if everything is glued and i screw up, i'll be in alot of trouble.

Less chance of squeaks with glue than with nails only.

Nail and glue.I use Henkel PL Premium Polyurethane Construction Adhesive, do not save on glue, if you use this adhesive and nails you will hear not sqeak at all.

That is what I use. Nothing bonds better, besides a full spread urethane.

This is one of the stickiest substances known to man. It bonds without fail. I use it all the time.
