Hello, new to the board.

I'm getting bamboo floors installed in the living room and dinning area next week. The installer is suggesting to use felt for underlayment. What type/brand would you recommend for underlayment? I'm looking for noise reduction and most importantly soft for the feet. We walk around bare footed in the house.

I ask because a few years back, I rented a place that had pergo lamainate and it hurt walking. Had to wear slippers all the time.

Bamboo is a hard surface not unlike laminate. So any underlayment is not going to have a "soft" effect on walking. If you want a softer surface to walk on, buy a resilient product like cork, cork floating or glued down cork tiles.

what type of install? Nail down or floating?

It will be nailed down

Your floor is going to be a hard solid feel no matter what type of underlayment you use with a nail down. You could use something like cork for the sound but that is to reduce sound for the rooms underneath the install area not the actual room itself. A 15 lb felt is the norm.

Quiet Walk is a better feel than 15 lb. felt, under foot. Even for a naildown. My feet can tell the difference
