I put down some Bruce 3/8" 3 ply engineered hardwood and now I want to put the same hardwood onto my stairs with white risers. According to the posts I've been reading I need to undercut the planks at a 30 degree angle where they will hit the stair stringers. I need to butt them up tight because the use of trim pieces is to be avoided. My problem is my miter saw has the original saw blade on it and it tears up the cut edge of the plank.

What are my options to getting a cleaner cut edge? Should I just go out and buy a new blade? What blade is recommended so it won't tear up my cut edge? I even read one post where someone used a grinder, is this common?

Thanks

I've had good luck using freud diablo series 60t and 80t blades for my mitre saw. Should be able to get them at your local Home Depot.

I've had better luck then those expensive blades, using 10" Lifetime Blades, sold at harbor freight tools, for $20 each. I buy a bunch when they put them on sale for $10 each. I changed my blade in January, and still using it and it is still cutting like butter. I change blade when they start to smoke the wood.

It good to hear you've had good luck with the harbour freight blades. I've stayed away from then since my dad bought a few for his table saw and they were noticably warped. Maybe they have tightened up their quality control since then.

I have only found one to be out of balance, out of 100's I've bought since they opened a store here. I buy many at one time, so it wasn't a problem. Took it back with the receipt and got a new one, almost a year later.

I gotta try those blades! At ten bucks each for a 60 tooth? That's a steal! Man, it costs me ten bucks to have old, dull blades resharpened. Of course, like you all, I hate to change blades. I was smoking my table saw today just cutting thin maple trim. But that's after a year and a laminate job ( heaven forbid ).

Give them a try gary , the store in this area had two different brands of carbide , one being cheaper in price , I like floorguy went with the lifetime ..
I use the 10 on the chop saw , and the 7 for 2 bucks on the table saw ..

I don't have one of these stores in my area, so I'm shopping their site online. Is this the blade you speak of?

That would be the one!

And look, they are on-line for $10. Difference is, on-line you have to pay shipping.
