We recently purchased some re-claimed hardwood oak that we are preparing to install (VERY rustic and imperfect). I love the idea of using tung oil because it soaks into the wood and protects from the inside out, however I would still like a nice finish to the floors, which I do not believe I would achieve with tung oil. I also like the idea of a water based polyurethane vs. regular polyurethane.

Does a water based Poly soak in and protect like tung oil?
Can I use tung oil with anything else?
Is tung oil even recommended for floors?
What would you do?

Thank you!

Apply one coat of Tung oil, buffing it into the wood. This will enhance the graining and general appearance of the floor. Allow to dry thoroughly (2-3 days) Then top coat with at least two coats of water-based urethane for protection. Follow all directions for applying the finish.
