I have a builder who said they want this finish:

Medium brown wax with tung oil finish top coat. Actual color TBD after sample approvals

Ive never used tung oil. When he says use tung oil on last coat, what do I use on the first few coats? How much more per sq ft will this cost rather than oil based poly?

THANKS!!!!!

,medium brown is a duraseal color and is no longer wax based..i am assuming that is what was meant.

tung oil as the last coat means just that..over an old duraseal stain..1 coat tung oil would have been sufficient..

but if specs are calling for mere..you use all tung oil coats..if i am out of line, someone can correct me, but i would not apply tung oil over anything else other than itself....generally 2 coats is sufficient and as stated,,, 1 can be enough..

It is best to use tung oil over tung oil. You can also mix your stain minwax with the tung oil. Not quite sure of the ratio. Tung oil is a great product that stinks to high heaven. It is not as tough as a 2 k wb finish but it is reparable. Call the manufacturer for the product and find out the mixing ratio.

How much more $ does it cost per sq ft for the tung oil besides the polyurethane? As in material cost
