I am looking for some advice on how to proceed with my Waterlox application. I have a 300 sq. ft. Brazilian Cherry floor that was sanded and finished with 100% pure tung oil last month. In hindsight, I should have went with Waterlox from the get go. I did not learn about the benefits of waterlox and the danger of pure tung oil until afterward. Hindsight is 20/20, so now I am looking to right this ship. There are a few areas (< 10% of the floor) that have developed a flaky, frosted appearance. I understand the cause. My question is, before I apply 1-2 coats of Waterlox, how should I deal with these problem areas.
Should I lightly sand the entire floor with a 150 grit paper to open the pores again? Perhaps just hit the problem area with 150?
Should I use a Maroon pad to remove the excess oil? If so, just the problem area or the entire floor?
My biggest concern with applying the waterlox is given that the tung oil was applied so recently, the floor will not absorb any of the oil and it will all dry on the surface. Is this a reasonable concern?
Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.
