Hello. I live in an urban apartment with 20-year-old parquet flooring (light brown color). About 20 tiles around my desk chair have become damaged and need to be replaced. My building will replace them, but only with new tiles (honey color) that do not match the old tiles. I am told the original color is no longer available. Instead, I am proposing that they take the existing light-brown tiles from the closet floor (they are "like new"), transplant them to the damaged area, and replace those closet tiles with the new honey-colored tiles. The super insists this is not possible, as the tiles will break when removed, and that replacing the damaged brown tiles with the honey-colored ones (or buying a rug) is the best option. I imagine an initial tile or two could be broken in the removal, but the rest could be preserved if removed carefully. Is there any gentle removal process that would work in this scenario? Each tile is comprised of 7 strips each, and look very much like the ones shown here on Home Depot's website: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Bruce-Americ ... /203051410. Thank you VERY much for any feedback in advance!

If the original parquet was installed poorly it could work as I've seen some pop off floors in large pieces. If you're really lucky it could be a foam backed parquet that should come off without damage.

But, maybe the super is right as he may have seen it tried in other units.

Thanks so much for the reply. I checked out some youtube videos and saw large areas of tiles being lifted up via snowscrapers without too much effort. However, like you say, I guess it depends on the materials and how they were installed. I still think it might be worth a try at least. I'm curious to hear if anyone else out there has experienced this and what the fix was.
