Hello again, I on my retirement project, well at least it seems :) Installing 3/4 inch bruce in my entry, living room, dining, kitchen and hall. I am getting so close. I ran into a snag this evening. I bought this 20.00 a piece transition strip from homedepot.

It looks like picture number 5 on this posting. http://www.hardwoodinstaller.com/hardwo ... sholds.htm

I think I installed it backwards. I tried tucking the carpet under the thinner section and placed the thick block up against my bruce floor. Different than what is shown in the pictures. From what the picture shows. 3/4 of the trim will sit flat on top of my burce and the big thicker part will go into the other room???

My problem is the thick block is not nearly tall enough to match up height with my 3/4 floor? Before I pull off the trim piece I thought I would make sure I do it correct the next time I install it.

Thanks for your feedback, I am so ready to get this project wrapped up. Lots of yard work awaits!!!

Use a pice of flooring and cut it to the width needed to reach carpet and then tuck the carpet to it using a piece of tackstrip. Stain and finish the edge to match your floor. It will look more like the transition in picture 2 and you wont have a big chunky transition sitting on top of your floor.

Or you can simply shim the bottom of it, seems like I have to do that on almost all transition strips these days.

So to make sure you understand my question completely. Or better yet, I understand your answer. The way I have it now, pushed up against the hardwood is correct? Not overhanging the hardwood? The piece I bought looks exactly like picture number 5. Sorry if this don't absorb to well with me, this is my first time doing this. With alot of sweat, aggrivation and help of this forum I am almost complete and it is looking pretty good. I have three door ways to do and just want to make sure I have the trim piece positioned correctly so whenever I have a carpenter friend or father n law come visit, They don't say what the  Have you done. Shimming it would be easy enough I believe if I have it pointing in the correct direction, but my installed direction is totally different than picture number 5. Thanks again for your help!!!

I didn't fully understand your answer the first read Mickey. Number 2 looks like the piece I bought to transition to the bathroom vinyl. I sort of understand now. I have already purchased these transition strips, if I destroy them durning installation I may try your route.

If I do have the strip installed the correct direction, I can probaly put a yardstick or simular under it and shim it pretty easily I would imagine. I nailed it on the ends because I thought I may have to remove it in the next month or so when we get new bedroom carpets.

The carpet goes up against the leg that touches the subfloor, it over hangs the wood and you should aloow expansion space under it.

Thank you floormeintucson, it sounds like I did it 100% wrong!!! I tucked the carpet under the recessed part to try to match up floor height. I guess there is no way for a smooth transition on the top surface except for like Mickey described. The one problem with that is I don't have money right yet for new carpet to perform a tuck n roll type of installation.

I guess I will turn the board around, put the lip over the hardwood and nail down the strip over the carpeted area? I don't guess it would do much good to allow for expansion if I nailed the strip into the hardwood?? Thanks alot for your help group. As I have stated I am so close and ready to end this project and move on to other chores. Thanks again
