My wife and I built our house in 2003 and installed hardwoods through the foyer, hall and kitchen. We intended to install the same hardwood in the dining room and living room after saving up some money. We planned on merely resuming the hardwood runs of flooring in the house for a uniform look (as if it was original). Unfortunately our hardwood floor manufacturer is out of business and we can't locate any of our original. My questions:

1. How easy is it to 'color match' a hardwood floor?
2. Would it be easier to install unfinished floor, sand all the existing floor, and then stain it all at the same time?
3. Somehow 'transition' from the existing floor to a newly installed floor? How easy is this and does it look ok when done correctly?
4. Should I listen to my wife and forget the whole idea?

Any suggestions would be great!

psmeathead,
if you have a header board at the door ways remove it and you will have to remove some of the older floor to weavin the new floor if you like the look of it all being install at the same time. unfinish floor is easy to get. sand everything to match the color you are looking for. your job is easy. if you would like to see what a weavin is take a look a our web site at www.delawares-finest.com and look under staircases and pictures click on before and after floors go down about ten rows and you will see it.

AustinFloorguy
is that what you are talking about?

he needa NOT to have a header in there if he is trying to have the look of it all being installed at the same time.
