From reading many posts on this forum I get the idea that wide flooring (like 5") in a solid BC is not a good idea, that enginered is a better choice. Is this how most of the pros feel ? I am talking about over a wood subfloor.

I personally like it. I do recommend adhesive with nailing/stapling. It is also imperrative that you strictly follow acclimation guidelines with this stuff as well. Full working HVAC system before delivery. If you can, invest in a moisture meter and use it ... thoroughly. If you're gonna use it once ... sell it on Ebay when you're done ... or find a good one you can borrow.

I've seen alot of this stuff shrink between install and sanding. No worries with the timbermate filler though. Both instances were due to the builder's belief that a rental heater would be just fine ... right. At least he was cool to not panic and let us do our thing. As long as it looked awesome when we were done he didn't freak. Still looks good now.

Sure wouldn't hurt to install a humidifier with it as well. 5" Exotic wood ... every little bit helps.

I'm a big fan of 3/4" solid ... yes, engineered is more stable ... how much do you like short pieces or pieces that are all identical in size? You will have more of a character variety in solid.

Good Luck!

In order to achieve what the competition cannot grasp, we must complete what they will not attempt. Nobody ever said it would be easy, but it's darn sure worth it.
