This is my first post even though I have been visiting the site for the past sevral days. I am installing hardwood floor over the concrete. Concrete is dry and I have laid 6mil plastic and using tapcons to secure the 4x8 plywood to the concrete. I am using 32 screws for each 4x8 or one screw for each square foot. Before I start stapling the hardwoods to the floor, I would like to know if I have too many screws that will interfere with my Bostitch MIIIFS and constantly jam my stapler or damage the hardwood strip. One manufacturer of staplers suggested that I mark each location of the screw, but how would I do that if the plywood will be overlaid with #15 felt?

Thank you for your input in advance.

you will know when you hit one, usually it doesnt jam he gun. make sure you use the 1 1/2 inch staples and nails.

Did you put the tapcons in rows? Like joists? That would make the marking process simple

Thank you. Screws are placed somewhat of pattern---3 inches from the edges then 12"-16" in from there. They do not necessarily line up exactly. I thought maybe using a stud/nail finder and marking the screw heads over the felt. Am I going too much trouble for---I have to mark about 300 screws.

I wouldn't bother myself. If you hit a tapcon, the staple will curl back at you and you'll have to pull it. Just lay the floor. You'll be fine.

I'm more worried about poking 32 holes per sheet of plywood, through the plastic moisture barrier!!! You mean moisture retarder at that point?

Silicone caulk, doesn't like to stick to dust, either.
