I have professionally installed Anderson Patagonian Pecan with the aluminum coating. Floors looked GREAT when installed.

In less than a year, there are scratches/dents EVERYWHERE. In many parts of the house it looks like someone took a needle and jabbed it up and down hundresds of times. We never wear shoes in the house, have felt under all furniture, and rarely have people over. No pets or children.

All of my research showed Patagonian Pecan was hard, durable, and one of the most resistant to scratches/dents.

Clearly no wood floor is scratch/dent resistant--but this is WAY more than any of my other apartments/houses with wood floors. We will be selling the house in 5 years, but at this rate the floors will be thrashed. Plus, we want to have a child.

I looked into sanding/refinishing--but it is too thin. You can't.

I had the rep come out, he says it's "normal wear and tear."

Could the finish be the problem? Is it the wood? Is there a way to have it tested? Will testing even tell us anything?????

None of our friends have this issue and they have had their floors longer.

Thanks for any help, I am so disappointed. We used all our savings on the floors.

Anderson is generally considered to be a fairly decent/good quality floor. Not the very best but above average, IMO. Since the rep says it normal "wear and tear", I don't see much hope. You could attempt to go higher up the corporate chain of command to see about a reversal of opinion but personally, I doubt very much anyone from Anderson is going to help you. Your only recourse is to hire an independant credentialed inspector who may agree that the floor has flaws or premature wear. If the inspector finds that it is flawed due to manufacturing defects, then you can present that to the rep to see if he will agree to replace it. If he won't agree, then you could try the distributor who sold the flooring to the retailer. Last recourse is to sue everyone and hope one of them will cough up for a new floor. But you must be able to prove that the floor has a manufacturing defect.

Thanks for your help....The Rep was actually the "distributor" rep. The store sent them out as they did not want to deal with it. Anderson has not been helpful at all (the technical people knew little to nothing about what was "normal" for the floor). Anderson did tell me I could not sand/refinish the floor.

I took your advice and talked with an Independent Inspector--the cost would be about $450 for an inspection and report. Yikes!

He said he would have to take a plank out of the floor to test--and that a rep from the store would have to be present while he did it. Yikes again!

They gave me extra planks during install--can't I just have one of those tested????

Thanks again for any advice or help......

My Anderson pecan floors were installed a little over a year too and I have been disappointed in how easily they scratch and dent. There are many times when I don't even know where the scratches could come from but there they are. My cat knocked a plastic tumbler off the kitchen island and it dented the floor and that was within the first week of the install. I'll be following your post with interest.
