Hi all,
This is my first post as we are going to undertake flooring install in our home and i figured this is a good place to come and ask question which i'm sure will be plentiful.
Right now we are in the process of ordering white oak engineer click floor. We have not received the product yet and i'm in the process of preparing the subfloors in our home for the install.

We will be installing over concrete and do a floating, click install. Our concrete has a lot of old glue form the vinyl tile and we don't want to touch it as it may contain asbestos and will cost a good deal to remove.

The first question that i have is which side of the board should be facing out (away from the starting wall) - grove or tongue (this is click floor).

Thank you

Who's the manufacturer?
Usually it's groove facing out, & work left to right.

It's US Floorshttp://www.usfloorsllc.com/products/carriage-house/

I will be downloading and reading their install instructions (if they got them on the web), but wanted to check here for common wisdom on the issue.

Excellent product. Installed 2300 ft. of Ginger , 3 months ago.
There was a little creaking here and there from a few bowed boards, but it's settled down nice since.

Good to know that I'm not the only one who is buying from this company.

I see you have a fairly fond impression of their product - any other comments, tips, suggestions before i drop off the check for the shipment?

Was the install job you did a floating or glue/nail? Were the planks mostly good with a small number of defective ones? Anything you can tell me about them is very appreciated.

I installed the Engineered, it's a click t&g, ( float only ).
The planks were all excellent, not 1 defect in the whole batch (amaizing) , just a few bowed , ( which is to be expected ), but when your floating the bowed planks will give it a little more bounce untill they flatten out, which can result in creaking. It's to be expected, no big deal. Now it's all flat, no bounce, no creaks.
Natural Cork or US Floors is a quality outfit, been installing their material for years.
Excellent construction, milling, finish, cant say enough good. Go for it.

Thank you for the information, makes me feel a easier about spending that much money on a single purchase

Also - i've just read in "contractor's" portion of the forum that many use wax to prevent squeaks in T&G. Is that something i should do and what should i use?

Not sure if your going with their Engineered (locking system-float only), or the Solid ( Naildown only). The Engineered locking t&g profile is waxed at the factory, since it's floated. Whichever product, your not expected to wax the t&g.

Yes - it is engineered, lock T&G for a floating install. I plan to pick up the SHAW 3-in-1 underlayment called Silent-step.

One thing i still need to pick up is a pull bar, and angled tapping bock, which i haven't seen at the local Home Depot store.

I would find out if they will warranty the product under that underlayment, and get it in writing.

Lowes & HD have those tools all the time, you must have looked in the wrong place. You can also go to a local flooring supply,( where the installers go).
