Time for a new small slider! Must be close to payday.

Have been looking at several slider saws for hdw use & occasional laminate. First concern is quality / accuracy then durability & light weight. Price? Hey, you usually get what you pay for.

I favor the Makita 0714. Really like using it. Curious about input others may have.

Also looking at the Hitachi 8 1/2". Never used the small Hitachi.

Both have good consumer reviews.

What say you? Thanks

A lurker coming out of the closet.

I got the Makita 10" LS1013 and the Dewalt 12" slider . I like them both. If I did not own either one I would get the 12" Makita slider and have the best of both worlds.

The 12" ones are bad mamma jamma's. I own two Hitachi's. The 8&1/4" annd the 10". The 10" can do everything those 12's can. Same cutting capacity, flips to both sides, etc. My problem with the Hitachi's is the small table. It hasn't been a problem but I guess it could be. The Dewalt's do not seem quite as accurite and sturdy as the others. The times I used one, it vibrated a lot, had blade wobble and just felt sloppy in general. My Hitachi was under 5 bills, has a laser feature, uses a 10" blade (which costs WAY LESS than a 12" to buy or sharpen) and is lighter in weight than those others. I did rent the Makita 12" once before I got my 10" and it was a real nice saw. But cost nearly $800.00 at the time and weighed more. I use my Hitachi for cutting stair treads, baseboards, stringers, laminates, wide plank flooring, longstrip floors, etc. It has always done an excellent job. It also has a "soft start" feature that takes a little getting used to. Look at the Bosch slider while you're shopping around. They make excellent tools as well.

Thanks.

BTW, I have a 10" Hitachi, a 12" and a 15".

Really feel a need for something lighter and easier to manover.

Have been using two chop saws on low dollies, one at either either end of room as I cut in the rack. Working by myself for decades, I try to cut down the getting up and down and moving of tools.

The 0714 Makita is 26lbs. Smaller motor and runs 6k rpm.

The 12 inch sliding makita can be bought for 500 right now at www.timberlinetools.com, and you get a "rebate" from makita of an 18V drill kit, that timberline will give you 100 for (or you can use, or sell).
