I'm wondering if this is hardwood flooring or some lesser quality product? I have no experience with hardwood flooring whatsoever - I'm not even sure if it can be identified from a photograph. I'm trying to get a heads up before calling in for estimates. Ideally I would like to have the floors sanded/refinished to be a little darker.

The house is from the 70s, has a plywood sub floor, and has "newer" carpet throughout. The carpet is in pretty decent shape in most parts, but does have some stains and a pretty obvious patch. I ripped up the patch and peeled back an adjacent corner and took some pics. Any input would be appreciated

Close up. Is this dark gap normal?

View from the basement looking up to the plywood sub floor. I have these fasteners poking through in the bedrooms and living room. I also notice an obvious raise in elevation when transitioning from the hallway to the bedrooms, so maybe nothing in hallway.

Yes that a real wood floor. The gaps are normal, wood contracts and expands dependent on the environment in which it is located. The thing that would worry me is that they put new carpet over it for a reason. The floor may be trashed and not salvageable under the rug, thats when i see people put a rug over hardwoods.

Thanks, Kevin. I was thinking the same about as to why it would be covered up with fairly new carpet. I will probably rip up one room to start and hopefully there are no surprises.
