Hello,
We just got hardwood refinishing work done and we are very unpleased with the outcome and attention to detail. I would appreciate other professional opinions to gauge how to move forward with the contractor that did this work. Many thanks!

What is acceptable is entirely a subjective opinion.

However to make it objective, all floors will have imperfections.

it was you can see form a standing position looking at a normal angle in normal lighting. If the imperfections show under these circumstances, then it would not be considered correct.

everything there is easily corrected so just ask your contractor to make the corrections.

the vent is pure sloppiness, but at the end of the day..it will dry and not be any issue.it wont effect the air flow.

there is 1 picture you took I cant see anything wrong in.it s a door jamb picture.

Thanks for your input James.

In the first door jam picture, there are a bunch of swirl marks as well as a big blob of stain on the left. The second door jam picture is more blotchy stain around the corner. There are many areas like this in the house now. We didn't have them on the initial hardwood floors that were in the house (5 years old). Is the blotchy stain an acceptable result of quality refinishing?

I see the marks in the first one..the second pic I feel you are being a little over fussy. However, it may be understandable if there are many issues..it can make your inspection become more detailed.

However, I don't see the full results of the job in its entirety.

If these pics represent the worst of the job or the only problems with the job, then I would say you got a good job with some flaws that easily corrected and in
doing good business, he should correct to make you happy.

Hopefully he will take the steps in the future to learn form this and not repeat..the vent is a bit sloppy to say the least.

If you don't make mistakes you never get better.

The swirls around the door should be sanded or scraped out and then se stained, coated and blended into the rest of the floor.

The other door jamb picture seems normal. The dark areas appear to be open grain. If not, then he should touch those up as well.If they are open grain, they would natuarally take more stain and appear as dark areas . I can't tell from the picture 100%

The issues with the finish can and should be be touched up .
