So my wife dropped coals on my wood floor and didn't notice until it was too late.

I know the only way to make it right is to do a board replacement but I'm using this as a chance to learn some concepts and if it's somewhat acceptable I'll be happy.

So this is where it started:

This is where I'm at:

I basically sanded as much as possible but some of the burns are way deep. I'm thinking keeping the black and using them as faux wood knots. But now I'm lost on how to try to somewhat match this finish.

Thoughts?!

Again, I know it won't be close to perfect but I know it can be better than where it is.

This is not a bad repair. To finish the floor you may try using Varathane Diamond water-based acrylic poly-urethane. This will give you the light modern look to your floor.
