Hi - I'm posting some questions about the best way to get the perfect floor. My wife and I have chosen to have Teragren Synergy (strand) bamboo installed in the first and second floor in our N.Va. home. I would love to hear to from this experienced community on what we are planning and any tips or advice. ***Background: -We chose the floor because I want a warhorse of a floor that will last and last and last. Strand bamboo is tough, teragren is supposed to be the best. Consumer Reports rated highly. -I have installed ~100 sq. ft. nailed down in our closet as a test run for the product. (I'm handy, experienced DIYer). We like the color, and it didn't flinch when hit with a hammer (by accident. Several times). Product quality seemed excellent. Did bang up a few tongues with the cleat nailer (18ga) and the brad nailer did not work at all - I had one brad u-turn and come back out the top. Pre-drilled and finish nailed starter row. Glued last 3 rows. ***Tech Specs: Teragren synergy strand bamboo MPL tongue and groove (1/2", solid) ~2000 sqt ft, 1st (about climate controlled basement) and 2nd floor. includes:Stairs with solid tread (both contractors said glue them) includes: a sunroom (1st floor, over basement) 3/4" T&G plywood subfloor Northern Virginia Will have teragren authorized dealer install One dealer would much prefer glue down - says face nailing is ugly and will not fill with putty right ***Questions What is the general opinion of nailing (over asphalt impregnated kraft paper) and are there any problems I might expect? What's the opinion on durability and potential problems of a glue down install - either on luan (for flatness) or over FloorMuffler or 1/4" cork? I'm really not familiar with glue down at all In your house, would you glue or nail? In your house, would you glue over cork or FloorMuffler-type product? 2nd floor only or 1st as well? What are your thoughts and experience on doing the sunroom? Does this community hold an opinion on the Teragren strand products? ***Thanks to anyone who has taken the time to read or share knowledge. Much appreciated
