Hi all!

Situation: I'm installing a engineered bamboo floating floor. I'm removing the vinyl kicten floor and sub floor to get everything the same level. The subfloor was attached using a lot of staples. As of now I'm trying to remove every last one of them but it is tedious work.

Question: Can I pound the staples flat and lay the 2 in 1 or 3 in 1 over the staples or will they eventually damage the floor from underneath?

Thanks for any replys.

Jon

Yes, you can pound those annoying staples down flush. Just make sure you don't miss any sticking up. Use a 20+ oz hammer. BTW, your "subfloor" is called UNDERLAYMENT, not subfloor. GEEZ, no one ever seems to get this right!

Thanks for the replys... uh, yea, I ment to say underlayment...

I like the grinder idea, since I could grind through the particle board chunks and the staples at the same time!

Thanks a bunch! This will save a lot of time.

Remember goggles ,gloves and kneepads. That is prickly work.

Thanks Chuck!

Also found out that a pair of vise-grips works great too! Between my wife with the grinder and me we finished the Kitchen floor in record time!

Thanks guys! :D

A word of caution.

Make good and dang sure you have left no protruding fastener ends. They can puncture your vapor barrier. Probably not a huge deal over a wood subfloor, but a good idea nonetheless.

p.s. Channel locks work better than vise-grips. My bad.
