Hi all,
I'd like your opinions on what can be done with this floor:
http://imgur.com/wF1luvB,JiAxUjo,AF2maZM#0It is teak parquet (1/4" thick) over a cement subfloor. I am guessing that the parquet is original from 1975. There was a carpet installed over the parquet. When the previous owner removed the carpet, he found parquet in bad shape with one section missing the tiles and filled-in with a grey latex (pictured). He covered the floor with a floating, tongue-and-groove engineered "wood" floor. I started removing the floating floor to peek underneath.
Bad as it is, I'd like to restore the underlying teak parquet if it is at all possible. A few questions:
What is the best way to remove the glue spots on the teak? This must be the adhesive that was holding down the carpet, because you can see fibers in the spots. The glue does scrape away, but there seems to be a bit of staining left behind. What is the best way to remove the latex filler? Since the 12" teak parquet tiles are impossible to find, I figure I'd try to replace the missing sections with individual 1" x 1/4" teak pieces.Am I crazy to even try anything with this floor?I am going to bring in a hardwood flooring specialist to make a recommendation, but I'd like to hear what you all think.
