I am currently building a vacation home on the Gulf in the Englewood, FL area. I am getting lots of conflicting advice regarding the best wood for my home. Some people insist that solid wood is best, others say I must have an engineered floor. Either way I would like to use teak, but there appears to be a difference in stability between "real" and brazilian teak.
The house is a stilt home with Advatech sub floor. My concerns are the humidity in the area, and wear from sand that will be tracked in. If I get a solid floor I will be able to refinish more times, but will have more expansion and contraction. I live on very old wood floors now and the sctratchs and dents don't bother me.
I have looked at an LM Floor, Kendall Plank, and the color and finish are perfect, but the thin wear layer concerns me. I like that the product has a barely eased edge, as I am not a big fan of bevels.
Any suggestions would be appreciated! My budget is around $6 psf for the wood, and I need about 1800 sf.
