Hi

We are putting down 2,000 SF of hardwoods on concrete with screeds. The screeds will be 2x4s and the hardwoods will be 3/4. I always see installers using hot tar to lay the screeds in. I've read that gypcrete could be use as an alternative? We don't want to have the fumes and off gassing from the tar in the house. Does anyone know of another method for securing screeds on the floor? Can they be nailed easily into the floor and is that a good method as well?

Thanks for any advice.

switch them for 1x4s then they can be fastened.

you can also use urethane adhesive.

or cold tar adhesive.

without going on too long you need to prepare properly over a slab to protect from moisture ..

Who said you could use gypcrete to adhere the screeds down with? Thats usually used between for sound abatement upstairs and over radiant heating.

Plastic can be used to cover the tar or like James said, cold roofing mastic. That will be sufficient to block MVE. Its the old NOFMA method.
