Hello,

I just came across this forum and have a question to ask. We are replacing our flooring in our house with engineered wood and plan on installing it myself. I am going to float it since that is the easiest method. In our foyer, there was real hardwood glued to the concrete slab. Due to water coming around the front door before we bought the house (problem has been corrected), the wood started to loosen. Pulling this wood up has been a bear!:!: I've got the wood up and scraped up all the wood remnants that I could find. However, there is still some adhesive but for the most part, the entire floor is smooth. How imperative is it to get every last bit of adhesive off before floating the floor? There are no high or low spots to speak of. Thanks.

If the subfloor (concrete slab) is FLAT, with no lumps or bumps from the adhesive, then you are good to go. Since you will be installing some sort of vapor retarder (plastic sheeting) and a foam underlayment (or similar), it is not imperative to remove every last smear of old adhesive.
