hello I am 40ish slightly balding...oops wrong site... :?: ..seriously now, I pulled my carpet in the kitchen entrance and saw plywood...so I order all the 3/4 pre finished hardwood to do the entry and my living room. so I pull the rest of the carpet up and whoever built the house used 1/2 particle and 1/2 plywood (in kitchen entrance) ...so do I add a 1/4 inch plywood over everthing ?or do I need to pull the particle bd up, I will add that there is 3/4 particle bd. and plywood under it. I am using 2'' staple to fasten the hardwood floor down. Thanks for any help...

oops I missed that one, If I am using 2" staples and going through 1/4 " of hardwood and 3/4" of particle bd, I would be getting around 1/2 '' (angled)of staple in the plywood under the particle bd. I take it this still is not acceptable ??

NO, try it. That staple will not even go all the way through your 3/4" p. board if you have 1/4" ply on top. I'm afraid that p. board underlayment will need to be removed and plywood installed in it's place. You sure you have plywood under that p. board? If so, just take all the underlayment out down to your plywood subfloor. If that is at least 5/8", you can install over that.
