I am installing 3/4 " solid hardwood over 3/4" plywood floor joists are 2x10 24 oc in kitchen and living room, and 2x12 24 oc in foyer and powder room. what if any problems do you see me having and in what direction would you suggest laying the floor.

thanks

That's a fine subfloor for solid 3/4" wood flooring. Lay your flooring at 90 degrees (right angle) to the direction of the joists. Sand down any high places. Subfloor needs to be flat 3/16" in a 10' radius.

That subfloor is over the limit for a single layer 3/4" plywood. The maximum allowed is 19.2 OC. You will need another layer of 1/2" CDX plywood cross laid, or, brace between the joist every two feet with 2x4's or 2x6's.

Just curious, how far a span do you have on the 2x10's and 2x12's?

Jerry, you're right. I missed that 24" OC part.

sorry had a typo the plywood is 15/32, but now to find out I pulled up a piece of the vinyl in the kitchen to find plywood over top vinyl so it looks like to pieces of plywood with vinyl in between and I am assuming that their is (not sure of the name) a piece on top of the original plywood stapled down probally a 1/8 " what would you suggest to do.
