i'm starting my first floor project, installing laminate flooring. I ripped up the carpet to find particle board flooring. everything I read says not to put the laminate over the particle board so I plan on ripping up the 1/2" particle board which was laid on top of wood. My question is what should I put on top of the wood floor as a subfloor, I'm assuming plywood but would welcome some input on which kind, what thickness, how to put down (glue, nail or screw).

Thanks.

If it is floating laminate it can go over the particle board. If you are stapling then you will want to remove the particle board.

thanks for the advise. I already ripped up the particle board due to some wet spots that left some areas soggy. any advice on that to put down on top of the tongue and groove wood planks. I'm assuming plywood but don't know what type, also is screwing it down the best option?

Thanks.

Yes plywood and yes to screwing it down. Ya might want to check the subfloor for lose spots first.
