I plan to glue and staple 3/4" hickory 4" hardwood to a subfloor which is going to be constructed over a concrete slab. I have moisture concerns regarding the possibility of mold. The hardwood flooring was a big investment and I plan on it being used after I am not around to use it, so I want to put it down the best possible way that it can be done over a slab.

If anyone with experience with this could offer an opinion on what they would use in there house I would greatly appreciate it.

The Plan

I currently plan on using 5/8" DCB ply wood with a moisture membrane in between concrete and plywood. I am planning on using 9 two inch screws per piece of plywood to secure the plywood to the concrete along with possibly an adhesive if I do not go with asphalt paper or plastic.

What are your thoughts on sealing the concrete then using an adhesive between concrete and plywood followed by screwing in while the adhesive is still wet? As opposed to asphalt felt.

Should I glue and staple the 3/4" hardwood to the plywood or just staple?

If not glue should I use some type of barrier between the hardwood and plywood, would you recommend a breathable barrier?

Any staple gun recommendations? I was looking at Bostitch MIIIFS..

If anyone could offer there thoughts on the best way to install 3/4" hardwood over a slab that would really help me out. I have put hardwood down up north but since living in Florida I have not and everyone I know has engineered flooring glued to the slab or floating floor and they all have complaints.

I would glue and srcew down 3/4" plywood. Then use a layer of felt paper, then staple the floor only. The bostich staplers are good.
