So I want to install a new floating hardwood floor in the master bedroom of my condo.
I removed a layer of carpet and carpet underlayment to find some ancient linoluem glued to the subfloor. The condo was built in the late 70's.
I was just going to use some roofing tiles to even any dips in the subfloor, it crowns a bit in the middle).
BUT...there is one section of the plywood subfloor spanning about 10' x 1.5' across the width of the room (room is 17' by 10') that looks like it has heaved or expanded up and it creates a 1/4" abrupt drop to the next plywood section.
I was thinking about cutting out that section of the subfloor and replacing it, but I'm not sure if the flooring contains asbestos and if it does I have been told to just let it lie and build overtop.
So, if the flooring does contain asbestos, would the best alternative be to build a new subfloor overtop to match the level of the heaving subfloor? I am hesistant to do this, seems like a lot of work just to accomodate one section of damaged subfloor.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
