I'm about to put Ash hardwood down in my dinning room. It's 3 1/4 wide 3/4 thick. The subfloor is 5/8 wafferboad t/g with 1/2 plywood running over it at a 90deg screwed down,I'm only putting down 215 sq.I'm not sure what to use ?cleats or stapples and what length?I live up north so it gets pretty dry here in the winter.I have the wood sitting in the house ,should I take the palstic wrap off the boxes for it to climetize? Thanks alot

There should be instructions that come with the flooring. Open up one box and read the instructions regarding acclimatizing and fastener type and length. Although I am pretty confident that the manufacturer will say staple or cleat and the length should be 2" UNLESS it was 3/4" plywood over concrete slab. Not the case with you, so, 2" fasteners. Folks make too big a deal over staples vs cleats. In most situations, it doesn't matter. Either/Or. The biggest difference is cleats allow the flooring to move a little easier because cleats do not grip as well. Whether you need this or not depends on where you live. High humidity areas will benefit from this more than temperate areas. However, fastener type does not take the place of maintaining proper RH and temperature. I find it odd that a solid is sealed in plastic. Is it from China? I'd take the plastic off IF after reading the instructions, it recommends that.

That Shaw hardwood is plastic wrapped, made by Zygraf.

Yes it's solid. It says in the instructions 2" power cleats or 2"staples with 1/2" crown and to nail every 8" to 10 " and 2 to 3" from end.

I am guessing the flooring manuctured in China is wrapped in plastic because of the long voyage across the ocean in containers which are not climate controlled. So far, all the flooring I've laid from China has been wrapped in plastic.
