I briefly skimmed the forums and I couldnt find this answer. I am putting new solid wood flooring in my home and I have a delema concerning the existing subfloor I have in Part of the area that I am going to be laying the flooring. I am replacing existing carpet with a regular subfloor and on the same level I have linoleum which has a 3/8" subfloor to bring it up to the same level as the carpet. My question is how to be remove the extra subfloor under the linoleum that is in the kitchen and around the cabinets? If I don't the I have about a 1/2" height difference between the new flooring and the eve (?) of the entrance doorways. I am thinking that the only option is to remove the subfloor. What is the best way/ tool to do this?

remove the viynl and substrate at the same time (should be 3/8th-1/4 total) set a circular saw at the correct depth, cut the floor into squares 2x2, 3x3, 4x4 and 4x8 will all work. arter you pry up the first piece it gets easy, stick a prybar under the pieces on the floor and pry up, spaded ended shovels work well also.
sawzall/multimaster around cabinets, when you get the vinyl/underlayment up happer all the staples down flush with the subfloor (there will be millions)

Thanks for the info. I didn't even think about cutting the floor into squares first. I am a little nervous around the counters but it does seem like there are any other options. Thanks again.

rof the inside corners use your sawzall/multimaster and cut them from the corner on a 45 degree out (making 2 triangles out of the square, pop them up one at a time and wiggle/beat them back and forth till they come out. Works well for aroud door casings too
