I'm leveling my floors in the coming week and have seen it recommended to use a straight edge as long at 10FT. I'm wondering what people are using for a straightedge this long. Longest I've seen is 6ft (a level). Finding a straight 2x4 that is 10ft. in length would be next to impossible as I can rarely find a perfectly straight 8ft 2x4. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jeff

Go to a flooring supply distributor in your area. Not a retail store.
Look in the phonebook under carpet, or floors/flooring or tile. You will see a listing for distributors.

Call them and tell them your looking for a 10 foot screed. If they don't carry tile or floor prep tools, ask who in the area does.

I use my 10 foot screed, for more things then just flatening a subfloor. I use it on my popped starting control line, to lay my first rows in hardwood, and with ceramic tile or stone for that first run.

I use it during inspections, to lay on top of the finished floor, just to see what I'm dealing with.

that screed would have come in useful when I put in my loose-laid brick patio out back too. Thanks for the suggestion.

You could probably get away with just running a string line.
