Just did my living room with 3/4" maple. Home Depot said 2" staples should be fine. When I go down in the basement I can see my subfloor(5/8" plywood) and there is about 1/2" of staple sticking through. I am just about to start another room and wondered if I should go to a 11/2" staple? Is the staples grip any better if it is all in the floor or does it matter?('')

NOFMA stipulates 2" fasteners for 3/4" solid T&G flooring. It also says 5/8" plywood subflooring is the minimum thickness needed for joists 16" OC. In your case, you can use either size 1&1/2" or 2" staples. But most of the time, the 1&1/2" staples cost MORE, due to less demand.

Thanks Gary; The Depot here sells the 1.5" for the same price as the 2" so I think I'll use the shorter ones from here on just to avoid the splinter mess that happened last time. I apprectiate the help.
