First thanks to the experts and professionals who offer their advice for free here! We DIY'ers couldn't do it without you. At least not properly.

I am installing 3/4 inch flooring and have the matching stair nose. My questions are:
In the 1st pic, if the floor goes over the "cap" of the stringer, should I cut the same rake on that edge of the flooring allowing the trim to continue up to the top of the floor? Also I was thinking to undercut the nose lip a few inches so the side of the nosing meets up with the flooring exact instead of notching the next row of flooring. Then I could fit a small piece of floor behind the nose on the stringer "cap"?

In the 2nd image I had thought to just put the nosing up to the egde of the stairs stringer, also having the floor go over the"cap" of the stringer and continue along the landing. After being on the site here I now am wondering if the nose should continue all the way around the landing? We are a having a professional do the railing so I thought he would do somthing to cover over that edge.

Please help me if you can!

cut your existing nosing, flush with your riser board.
Because your skirt board doesn't continue above your new floor, install (landing tread) or some call it stair nose,to the wall and around the complete stair well.

Landing tread should be 5" width. . . . and you will need to trim a little off the top of the skirt boards . . .

Thanks for your reply Dan-

The skirting(trim moulding?) actually does come up to meet the baseboard in the first pic side, so as to how the stair nose would attach on that side i'm not sure...

Looking at the 2nd pic I understand now by seeing other pics that the nose goes all the way around the ledge joined by a 45 degree cut, that really looks beautiful... but I've got the stringer jutting out so how would I cover this with the nose? Does the stair nose hang further out on that side to cover the end of the stringer?

As puzzled as I am now mabey I should call my stair and railing pro to do this part of the job and I could staple the boards around it...any weekend diy'er can get stapling the boards together but the detailed trim work is definately something worthy of respect.

Any more explanations to help me continue or should I call the pro?

YES ; let your stair pro install nosing before continuing with your flooring install. Lot's of luck.

I would have the stair guy over 1st anyway to install the spindle plate before the floor goes in at that area. Have him shim the plate up the thickness of the hardwood, so you can slide under, leaving your expansion. On the 1st picture...I would think he would notch the nosing and run it to the wall, trim over it with the base, continuing into the room.
