We are using clear grade santos mahogany on a high-end job. Customer wants absolute evenness of color which we think we can obtain using Transtint. Anyone else ever confronted this request for santos? What did you use--Transtint, analine dye, pigmented stain? Did you seal it with shellac afterwards or did you go directly to your final finish coat? Thanks. Joe

What in the world are you talking about? Did you misdirect your post? I can see no way that your response has anything at all to do with my query? :?: :?: :?: :?:

TO get Santos to stain more evenly, you are basically looking at wash coating the floor prior to staining. Then stain it with whatever you want to use .Transtint dyes are great but you need to make samples , get the homeowner to sign off on them and then proceed .

What James is saying is that you are probably giving the homeowner too much control and setting yourself up for heartache. I kind of get a similar impression based on your phrasing.
