I am installing 3/4 columbia hardwood on a church stage. The stage has a 16' long 14 inch deep step that I have custom ordered unfinished. The color of the hardwood is "FAWN" Columbia doesn't sell stain. I am trying to match that stain on my steps but the pre-finished seems to have an opaque look to it vs my attempt to match it using a mixture of oil based "early american" and "red oak" stain. I can tell these colors would work If only the stain would almost paint the white part of the grain. instead my attempts with stain seem weak.
Anyone have any ideas?

Our local sherwin-williams store will make stain to match about any color it usually works well, although sometimes it is difficult to match a pre-finished floor. Good luck

I do the same with Sherwin Williams. Bring them in a piece of the flooring and a piece of unfinished and leave it with them for a few hours.
They usually do pretty good.
