I am having an issue with the sanding off of the stain on my hickory floor. Pro says the stain has sunk too deep and can not be sanded off. There were quite a few dark spots on the floor after the initial sanding. Some were obviously stain. Others I am not sure what the dark spots were. See pic:

I suggested that he the dark spots be sanded further. Pro says floor has been sanded too much and he doesn't want to do that, and wants to stick to his normal agenda. A thick coat of filler was troweled on the floor and the floor was sanded again the next day. The areas were improved quite a bit but still there. So what should be done at this point? My guess would be a 3 inch belt sander on the dark spots? Would that cause problems? The floor is a 3 inch 3/4 hickory. Would sanding some spots more and not the whole floor cause the seal and finish to go on uneven?

It needs to be sanded further..I really dont understand the problem with your contractor..there is an issue, that can be addressed..stain doesn't go "too far or too deep"....
it penetrates about 1/32 to 1/16th an inch at most.

he sounds like one f those guys who likes to tell people that the urine damage in a floor cant be sanded out when 90% of the time they can..with some WORK..
