Help! We just had 3000 sf of new, red oak 3 1/4" X 3/4" hardwoods installed in our home. They have been installing and prepping (3 steps of sanding) the floors for about a week. Today the stain was applied (Min-wax Early American). I went over to look at it (from the windows and doors) during the application and right when they finished. Everything appeared to look good. Buuuuttttt, then I went to look at it again a few hours later (still daylight hours) and they look very blotchy and uneven. Some of the boards don't even look like they have stain and others looked stained on half of the board but not the other. I hope this is just what it might look like when it is drying. Does this seem normal? They are supposed to put poly on the floors tomorrow, but I don't know if I should tell them to hold off so we can get this figured out.

Luckily, when I went over there this morning, it looked great. I think it was just the light hitting it while it was drying. The floors turned out a little lighter than I expected, but perhaps that's for the best. I'm overall very happy. :)
