I could use some advice on how to paint volleyball and basketball lines on a court that I will be refinishing. It is an old parquet basketball court in a church. I have 12 years in the industry and have finished thousands of sq but have never done a basketball court.

This is what I understand about the proses
1. Remove finish 36, 60 80 or as needed- buff & vac
2. Sealer (Oil) with the first coat- then then paint the lines
(if this is not correct plz let me know)

Lets say that I want to paint the lines Red.
1.What type of paint do I use? and do I want to mix it with natural stain? if so how much stain to paint ratio?
2.What type of tape roller do you guys recommend? How dose it work, can you achieve 1 inch lines and 3 inch lines from the same roller? Can you rent one or need to buy (seen them for $600)? What type of tape?-Im guessing 3M blue
3. How do you know where to put the free through line and center circle, radius of the circle and so on. I would think making the lines straight is the most important and most difficult to achieve... any tips would be much appreciated.

Thank and God Bless

Bona makes court linbe paint.

buff your sealer first..clean..then paint..its sually a 2 seal 2 top coat..you should apply 2 coats sealer first then follow as outlined.the paint goes to prepped sealer..then topped with finishes

you need the MFMA sport line specs available from the NWFA but you may find it online.

Start with the outline rectangle lines..

then you can fill in the rest once that is set.

take pictures before you sand..take some measurements of existing lines for reference and adjustment as they give you NBA, NCAA and HS specs.. Hopefully you are at elementary school or the like..Less critical and a good starting point
to get your feet wet.

you will need to buy yourself a tape roller.. oh and don't forget the tape..=)

you can always bid the job, sub it to the right outfit and watch and learn too.

I would go around to all my points/lines take a punch and mark them well enough that after you sand all your layout marks are easy to find. You will need a game line tape machine i just dont see any other way. Check out praters sports floor and Conner sports floor youtube account they have quite a few good videos showing sports floor refinishing. good luck!
