Reading Rookies top 10 list leads me to this question....

After looking closely at some of my bundels of hickory I noticed that some of the pieces have splintered grooves. Meaning the top or bottom "lips" are splintered. Should these pieces be cut down or discarded?

Yes, one or the other. The manufacturers will normally exchange the cartons in question as long as you notify them first before installing. This may cause a delay, but sometimes it is better to hold off.
