Hey guys, I'm installing 3/4" solid unfinished Brazilian Cherry throughout my home. I have a couple of questions before I begin. First, I may need to use splines in a couple of areas. Do I need to use splines made of Brazilian Cherry or would any species suffice? Second, my moisture content is around 7% in the flooring & around 9-10% in the subfloor. Is it okay to install with this range? I'm located in Maryland, DC area. It gets pretty cold in the winter & pretty humid in the summer.

Thanks for the help in advance

how wide of plank? I would try to get that wood mc up a bit personally. The average m/c for you area is probally closer to 9-12%. If you want to proceed some built in field expansion would be a good idea imho. Is your house on a crawl space? Sounds like it with those readings, check the crawl space it must have 100% ground coverage with 6mil poly and adequate cross ventilation before you proceed.

No, there isn't a crawlspace. That average makes sense since the subfloor is around 10%. What doesn't make sense is that the wood has been in the house for about a year now. The house was in really bad shape when I bought it so I've been busy with other projects. What would be the best way to bring the m/c of the flooring up with out raising the content of the subfloor at the same time. & since it's been in the house for over a year, would it hold the moisture anyways? Does that make sense? Kind of thinking out loud.

Thanks for the help

How are you getting these moisture content numbers? Got a pin meter?

Yea, I have the Delmhorst J lite. One thing I didn't take into account is the different species  . Hmm, that could be my problem. I read the manual the meter came with & Brazilian Cherry wasn't on their conversion chart, do you think that could be making the difference between the 2?
