Hello,
I am getting ready to install spline and reverse flooring direction. From what I've found here and elsewhere it sounds like I am supposed to nail into the spline after gluing to secure the board. My concern is, will this split or damage the spline? I am using 2" staples. Will this work ok or should I use finish nails with a regular nail gun at an angle?
Any help will be much appreciated.
p.s. My flooring is 3/4" x 5" maple.
Best,
Pete

Either way will work. I use glue to hold the boards down when changing direction, also. You are "going with the grain" when the staples shoot into the spline. Even if the spline may split in spots, it will hold the next piece in place.

Thank you Pete A. I will go ahead and staple the spline and add some glue under the row of boards going against the spline.
Much appreciated.

After you add glue and install the spline, if the glue is still wet, put a couple of pieces of the flooring on either side of your stapler with their grooves over the spline....this will hold the spline horizontal to the floor so that the next piece of flooring will fit to it tightly.

Thank you Jimmie. The spline went in well and I did use a piece of flooring to keep the spline level. I didn't notice and cracks or anything like that. Really appreciate you guys taking the time to lend some advice.
