I purchased approx 1200 SQ FT of South African karri and would like to install it in my house. I have run into a few issues with the wood though and need a few questions answered before I feel comfortable installing it. The wood has been garaged for 5-7 years now and is in great shape. It measures 3-3/8" x 3/8" leaving the T&G 1/8" thick.
It was milled by an individual who only put T&G on the lengths of the wood. Do I need to install T&G the ends before install or can I butt them up together?
I've read that karri must be pre-drilled before nailing due to its tendency to splinter or chip especially with such small T&G's. Can I get away with stapling it or is nailing it necessary?
As far as finishing it with a sander, how high of a grit should I take it to and what issues can I expect to run into with taking a hard hardwood up to a smooth finish?
(Having issue uploading photo. Will upload soon.)
