Hello, and i apologize in advance if this question has been asked before.

My wife and I are in the process of purchasing a condo and we found out that the condo association requires that we place "quiet walk" padding if we are to install hardwood floors in the bedrooms, which currently have wall to wall carpets.

The condo was build in 1989 and currently the living room and dinning room...basically the rest of the house has a pre-finished maple with microbeveled hardwood floor that is nailed down to 3/4" plywood that sits atop the concrete slab. This floor is being grandfathered in.

We want to install the same kind of wood flooring in the other rooms so would it be possible to place 3/4" subfloor, glue the insulayment on top of it, and then nail the pre-finished maple into both layers...through the insulayment and the subfloor?

The floor guy i was talking to said its not possible to use this sound proofing material with nailed down flooring and that its used for laminate or floating floors.

Thanks for any help.

you can lay the sound proofing and then float the plywood and nail to plywood. Just a guess i would check with manufacture of sound barrier.

I agree with Mickey. We recently had a similar thread from a guy whe recently bought a condo. His issue besdies the sound abatement was transitioning to a low profile tile. I cannot find the thread though. However you may have to protect the ply from moisture in the slab. Yes, slabs like yours can have moisture issues.

Many different systems for this type of installation can be had. One is six mil ply with a sound abatement underlayment installed under the plywood. Cork is also an option, I think at least 6mm. And also there is many other underlayments like the high performance one at http://www.floormuffler.com/ultraseal/ultraseal.html
