I will be installing 3/4" solid hardwood on a 2nd floor duplex. The question I have is this, is there a product to help reduce the noise for my downstairs neighbors? Right now upstairs I have 5/8" plywood with 3/4" particle board on top. My plan was to remove the particle board and glue 1/2" plywood to the existing 5/8". Just wanted to know if there was something to install either between the plywood or under the hardwood. I have installed a few floors and plan on using 2" staples. Thanks for any help you may be able to give me.

Nothing will limit the noise transfer from a fastened down floor.

The fasteners into the subfloor, transfer all the noise into the structure. Even the wall studs.

Nothing will completely eliminate noise transfer. But, there are products to significantly reduce it.
