Hi Gentlemen,
In the process of installing solid 3/4 inch oak, prefinished. I have been using several resources, including this forum to gather as much information as possible.
Just received my shipment of hardwood and have been stacking it inside to let it acclimate. At the same time I have been culling out any obvious defective boards which leads me to my couple of questions.
1. I have come across several boards that are curled up at the ends.(Kind of looks like a bannana). Not many, but most are six foot length or better. They look good and would like to use them. What kind of techniques do you experts use to work this type of defect?
2. Also from reading a book on Hardwood Flooring Installation the author talks about "slash grain" as a defect that should be culled out. What exactly is slash grain and what does it look like?
Thanks for your help,
MJKAST

I think what he is refering to is wind shake. It's when the grain is seperating, normally seen on plain sawn boards it looks like the solid peice of flooring is delaminating between the layers of grain for lack of better terminolgy.
