Hi all. I have narrowed my choices down to Somersets new 7" red oak or Shamrock planks 5" red oak premium. Both are quality engineered products made in USA. My concern is 7" is getting pretty darn wide, anything to worry about if everything is done correctly. This will be installed in fairly new house with crawlspace and plywood subfloor, stapled down. Both products are 1/2" thick with 3mm wear layer, and appear to be equal quality. Any thoughts wood be appreciated.

Thanks Phil

I just checked both manufacturers installation requirements and found that Somerset requires 16" centers for 3/4 osb, I have 19.2". This is the only manufacturer I have looked at that wont allow 3/4" osb on 19.2 centers. That may make my decision easier.

They still do 19" on center? wow Well ya don't want any sagging down the road so I'd just suck it up and throw down some half inch ply. Plus bitch at the builder for being cheap.

If this is engineered you dont need to glue and staple like you do for solid. I would still call the man and read his install requirements online.

What about the 7" Somerset plank, any concerns with an engineered red oak that wide.

I called Somerset and they said that they comply with the NWFA witch states 3/4 osb on 19.2 centers is ok.
