Building new home and would like stair treads to be full tread vs end caps (faux treads) with carpet runner. Advantages or disadvantages to either one- full tread vs faux end caps (made to look like full tread)? Have not decided between solid hardwood or engineered. Should add the home is Ranch with lower level walkout (on grade?) with the sub floor on caissons. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thank you!

For a few extra dollars you can have real stair treads. The plywood ends are less expensive and carpet can be replaced easier when it gets worn, however.
The veneer on the plywood half treads is very thin so you may be stuck with the color you choose.
