I am trying to put together a list of companies that manufacture solid sawn flooring. So far I have Muskoka® and Vintage® brand names by Tembec and Owens Plankfloor®. Are there any others out there?

You must be talking engineered wood flooring, because all solid is a sawn product. Look it up on Kens other site. He has a list there but does not distinguish rotary and sawn face.

The following is what I am looking for:

1. Engineered flooring

2. Dry solid sawn - NOT a rotary peeled cut or a sliced cut.

3. The thickest wear layer available.

4. I am interested in what is available in both prefinished engineered and unfinished engineered.

Add "Antique Impressions" to your list. Based in Vancouver but ship all North America. Best one though is the Vintage product, they make both hand-scraped and smooth surfaced Solid Sawn, and has been proven to be very stable. One thing though, if planning on installation over radiant heat, you will need to install heat sensors under the floor (a real pain in the....)

What is a better engineered solid sawn product - Vintage® or Owens Plankfloor®? I know Owens Plankfloor® is available unfinished. Is Vintage® available unfinished?

Only by special order, and at no cost savings.

Can be tough to install though Howard. Tight milled. But yes, darned good.

Seems like I'm running across more and more tighter milled materials. Meritage (some species) , Provenza is rediculous. Just installed some Mullican Maple that was tighter than usual. Naildown doesn't present much challenge, but gluedown can be a bear. I put together a quite large, rabbited out tapping block, to deal with it. Haven't installed Owens since... was it a change in ownership? We don't have a distributor out here since then. I remember it being tightly milled, tight t&g tolerance, but don't remember having any install issues, and I'll be the first to b_tch hehe. Figuring on an unfinished, engineered, square edge, pre-sanded, the product was always super clean, with no overwood to be detected. IMO the t&g would have to be somewhat snug, considering the product, for the installed result. I understand that since change, the product is suppose to be the same.
Have actually noticed with some mills that Specie can make a difference in milling tightness. Not sure why. Maybe it has to do with drying or MC.

I think drying it out a tad helps the tight tolerences. But that is not possible for some zones like it is here.

I'll pull a few when the load gets here and check the fit. If it's to tight I open up all the boxes and turn off any humidifiers. Drying down MC here is no problem.

Is anyone familiar with the following company and the quality of their product? How do they compare to Vintage® and Owens Plankfloor®?
